i'll be home for Christmas

Today seems a good day to look back over the holidays and to remember a few of the special moments with family and friends. I started out the day by honking at a huge house in our neighborhood who still had their Christmas lights up, during daylight hours no less. RIGHT ON! Let's just get a little more out of 2008.

Top 10 Endearing Holiday Moments of 2008:

1. We all saw Marley and Me. But did you see Marley and Me with my mom, who yelled "You need the Lord!" to Owen Wilson during a quiet scene? I think not.

2. My brother's black lab Cooper standing at the back door with several small gourds stuffed into his large mouth, that he found in our backyard as we prepare Christmas dinner.

3. The same Cooper totally ignoring Scout circling him and barking in his "i'm a little dog who thinks he's can take a big dog" vernacular. "It's like having your chewtoy turn on you," says my sister-in-law.

4. My dad's sticky toffee pudding. Michele's tomato basil soup. Kelly's shortbread. The YMCA in Kyle full of pain-bringing machines to beat my body into submission with.

5. Totally psyching ourselves out to go carolling in the McLean's neighborhood but learning this year we are not going to. Instead we drink Sangria and watch TV outside because they are from California. RIGHT ON!

6. Walking through Bethlehem in Kyle; wooded acres turned into sweetly lit nativity, listening to one of our favorite worship leaders sing and be Jesus future with his beard, and loving so much that we live in a small town. Stars Hollow eat your heart out.

7. Watching Phantom of the Opera with my boys on New Year's Eve, with every candle lit and every Christmas light turned on.

8. Followed by watching Return of the Jedi; it's just not a celebration to Ben unless some Star Wars is involved.

9. Advent devotions every night with our boys, singing advent songs together, with a little Dr. Seuss "wahoo chorus" thrown in. Nightly walks through our neighborhood to take in the stars
and Christmas lights.

10. Making ornaments with William at the Booker T. Washington community center. Watching him light up around precious children who need him.
