what i'm learning from the ingalls

1.  Icebox making (needed in Texas, maybe could be put to use by SnoBeach).
2.  Blind girls can sew longer than seeing girls because they can sew in the dimming light.
3.  Laura doesn't know it yet, but she's going to marry a rich farmer, Almanzo Wilder.  Exciting!
4.  You can grind wheat by the half cup in a coffee mill.
5.  To make enough ground wheat for a loaf of bread, you have to grind it all morning long.
6.  They use the word good quite a bit; at least Laura did.  Good bread, good thread, good beds.
7.  Almanzo can make buckwheat pancakes as good as his mother's.  Laura, you are so in for a treat!
8.  Pa moved the family four times before book 5, in four years.  Not the best at guessing where to farm.
9.  Ma could make a lamp out of a button, grease, and cloth.  Very handy.
10.  One time the whole family was sick with malaria and almost died. They thought it was a bad flu.

Hope you enjoyed that glimpse into pioneer life.  Very thankful for the spoiled life I have.
